I moved to Long Beach in July of 2000. I knew no one other than my husband at the time and the couple (HJ & Nancy Green) that recruited us as teachers from The Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA. It’s now been 15 plus years and I have built a solid group of friends, colleagues, clients, and school related students, parents, and such. I feel invested in this community and truly love Long Beach. It is a city full of such much art, heart, and community.
So it was fun when Allison showed up to our session as a referral from another client and said she knew my daughter (who came along to the shoot too) from Spring Break camp. And then her father said “Hey, I know you.” I thought he was messing with me but he wasn’t. He just so happened to be one of my students at a photography class I taught this past summer. This city of mine continues to grow smaller by the minute (and I’m writing this tonight as I also ran into other connections at sushi dinner and then again at the store after). David laughs and likes to tease me as we frequently run into former students, clients, or friends while we are out and about. But I truly love finally having a sense of community and roots where I live.
It was a blast to meet and shoot this family!
