Any time I’m planning a session with my clients I always ask them where they would like to shoot…beach, nature, or urban?
I was excited when the Goldsworthy opted for an urban location as POW! WOW! Long Beach had a bunch of brand new murals throughout downtown and I knew I wanted to try them out for a session. If you are not familiar with POW! WOW!, it “brings art and culture to public spaces by beautifying the city while cultivating community pride.” This summer, Brooklyn and I hopped around the city to visit each of the artists while they were working on their murals. It was amazing…especially since the artists are from all over the world and their styles are vastly different. I highly recommend hopping on your bike and taking a gallery ride to visit each of the murals.
It was so fun to share the POW! WOW! murals with the Goldsworthy family and I think it made for a super colorful backdrop for their family photos. I believe this is session number three for us together. Thanks again guys!
This is from my session FAQ and my philosophy on location…
“Location location location? So here’s my two cents on location….it doesn’t matter. What? That’s right. Some of my favorite places to shoot are in allies and parking lots and your home. What matters most to me is good lighting and that we capture you and your family authentically. You are the focus of your images, not the location. Having said that, I am willing to go wherever you would like, I just don’t think you should stress over the ‘perfect’ location. In addition, I tend to walk and explore the area…so that you’ll have a diversified backgrounds.”
